FAQ’s about Downloading and Purchasing

1. What systems does The MasterList work on, and system requirements.
A: Any Windows operating system: Windows 98, 2000, NT and XP. Runs best with 64MB RAM and above. The Masterlist will not run on Windows CE or XP for Tablet.

2. Why do I type in my initials and then type in my initials again for my password?
A: The MasterList is set up to automatically put in the user’s initials as the person to whom the task is assigned. When networked, other users would appear in a drop down menu in the task box. Using your initials as the password loads your initials where they belong the first time.

3. What about security? I don’t want people in my system.
A: You may change the password after you get going.

4. I’m ready to buy but I don’t want to give you my email address.
A: We send you your permanent keys and other information by email. We do not use your email for any other purpose, nor is it ever disseminated or sold. We’re in the software business and wouldn’t jeopardize our relationship with you.

5. Can’t I send you a check?
A: Sure. Figure out the correct amount, mail us a check and we’ll email you your permanent codes when we get it. You can also call us with your credit card information.

6. Is there an International Version?
A: The MasterList works only when the computer is set to the US Date setting of mm/dd/yy and will not work on computers set to other date settings. This means that unless you are willing to set your computer's Regional Date Settings to U.S. English, The MasterList simply will not work. We have an international version planned. Please email us to find out more if you are interested.

7. Can I call you?
A: Yes, call us free at any point during the trial phase. After that we ask that you pay just $24.99 (good for 1 year) for any other support you may need by phone for additional personalized training or technical help. This is just to help us defray our huge long distance bill. Email support will continue to be free.

9. If I already tried a version of The MasterList can I download it again?
A:You need to uninstall TML first with Add/Remove programs under the Control Panel. Then you need to delete the folder The MasterList System at C:\Program Files. Careful, that WILL remove the database because our download won't allow you to link to an existing database. If you are a current user of The MasterList or would like to keep your database, call us at 216-295-0397 about purchasing an upgrade. Or, email us at sumac@themasterlist.com.

12. What is a Replicator?
A: The MasterList is a relational database, and, as such, is subject to corruption due to sudden shut downs or power disconnection. We have found that single users often do not have a consistent backup strategy at their PC. Our TML Replicator is a tool that is highly recommended for backing up The MasterList database in those situations, as a stop-gap for those who do not have a consistent backup utility on their PC. After you come to depend on The MasterList for all the details of your work, backing it up daily becomes imperative. If you didn’t purchase Replicator before, you may want to come back to our site and get it. Study it's use consistently, read the instructions, and verify periodically that it is really backing up.

A: You probably have an older machine set at 640 x 480 pixel display. Go to Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings and set your screen area for minimum 800 x 600 pixels. Color setting should be at least 16 bit high color.

21. I got an error message when installing The MasterList about my computer already having a certain component.
A: MasterList installs some standard components that your computer may already have installed. This may generate a message. It is almost always safe to hit OK and you will find that the install continues and The MasterList works just fine. But, if you are concerned, cancel the install and call us to help.
